Blue Ridge House

A meadow, a forest, and a view

Blue Ridge Mountains, NC

Stretched along a ridge line, a wooden wall unifies the Blue Ridge House. Separating the public spaces from the more intimate private ones, the organizational backbone of the project creates a natural backdrop that reinforces the power of the site while concealing the bedrooms beyond. The entire Blue Ridge Mountains region is known for its lumber mills: the inspiration for the stacked lumber wall came from the imagery associated with the traditional lumber trade, especially the sight of locally sawn timber stacks drying in the open air.
