Pratt Graduate Student Housing

Innovation and collaboration

Brooklyn, NY

This speculative project presented an opportunity to redefine urban infill housing. Located just a block and a half from the main Pratt Institute campus, the project aims to enhance the streetscape of a rapidly developing neighborhood while providing high-quality, environmentally sophisticated, and comfortable living spaces for 130 students. Utilizing offsite construction, the design features dynamic, interconnected interior courts—the lungs of the building—to ensure natural cross-ventilation. By leveraging the structural redundancy of shop-built modules and the zoning code’s flexibility, the building becomes a living organism that enlivens the streetscape while maintaining a human scale.
